So many squirrels! Let’s have more!
Hello friends!
I have butterflies in my stomach because I will launch my debut urban fantasy, The Queen’s Viper, this weekend during the All Hallows’ Reads Book Party. What’s more, I want to launch live on Periscope!
What’s that new fandangled thing you’ve loaded into your phone you silly over-achieving author-woman-mother-nurse, you? Don’t you herd enough squirrels in your daily life?
No, apparently not.
Periscope is a live streaming program that lets you “explore the world through another person’s eyes.” I watched my Blissdom buddies #scopewithpurpose and received insight into the way the world will communicate and find entertainment in the future. I’ve been in Jamie Foxx’s house, on a sunny beach in Hawaii with a man who makes wooden fences, and hung out with some shirtless dude in Alberta. Anything thing can happen.
When I know the exact time and date, I’ll pre-promote, so you won’t miss it. Come hang out with me at the Facebook Book Party in any event: 8 pm on Friday, 4 pm on Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday (don’t forget that the clocks go back during the night). You could win a signed copy of my book, or some lovely goodies, like one of these pendants by Velvet Mae’s Glass Press.
Tonight, I sat down to have a last “once-over” of my manuscript before uploading it onto Kobo Writing Life, and prep for the launch. Instead, I’ve been so busy organising for this weekend’s Book Party and Dark Dreams Giveaway, plus setting up for November’s events (Virtual FantasyCon, Bookapalooza and my book release party) that I haven’t even started the work I’d intended for tonight. Not to mention that I’m well behind on my post-Blissdom post for Real Women Drive Stick.
Note to self: Don’t work at the day job the week before three weeks of busy book promotional activities unless you have 1) hired a personal or virtual assistant who will work for hugs 2) cloned yourself or 3) trained your child to do your non-crafting work.
Maybe I shouldn’t have piled so much into such a tight time span (and don’t forget there’s the responsibility of Trick or Treating for Halloween… wait till you see my costume!) but I’m fired up by writing, by sharing my writing with such a supportive audience, and by venturing as far as I can into this new chapter in my life (pun may or may not be intended). If I have to have some chaotic weeks, then so be it.
“Something is always born of excess: great art was born of great terror, great loneliness, great inhibitions, instabilities, and it always balances them.”
― Anaïs Nin
Besides, sleeping is over-rated, isn’t it?
