One Line – Your Opening Paragraph
I posted the first line of a paragraph on Twitter, inviting writers to create and link their own opening paragraph
The sentence: Ultimately, young Baxter knew he faced his death.
Here is mine:
Ultimately, young Baxter knew he faced his death. Waves crashed against the broken hull, spitting insults at him. Sea water tore into his wounds. He watched his life seep through the bandages into the rising pools. Minnoh waited for him in the darkness below, where he would challenge his fate when he died.

Ultimately, young Baxter knew he faced his death. He sighed as he rooted through his backpack, and conceded that he was, perhaps, being a bit dramatic. Seriously though, what a crappy way to start the year! Maybe Jay was a complete neanderthal, but he was an idiot to have said it out loud and to his face. He had sworn that this year would be different. There would be no hiding in janitors closets. No taking the long way to classes to avoid the jerks. Then he’d messed it up on the first freaking day. Luckily, he hadn’t had much faith in his resolve. He pulled out his flashlight and book, and settled against the mop bucket. At least he’d have something to do while he waited for lunch to be over.
Jessica, thanks for sharing! You know, if you get out a paragraph an hour (two when the kids are asleep) , you’ll have a book in no time!
